Field Test: Gerbing Battery Heated Gloves
Gerbing "core heat" 7 volt battery heated gloves +/-$200.
Be aware and look for the "7v battery heated" designation if you purchase. This maker's gloves are also geared towards motorcycle/snow mobile use and are also available in "12v" that connect to a wire harness connected to a vehicle's battery.
The gloves are available in several sizes and it is important to know your glove size... Charts and measuring instructions available on line. They come with 2 batteries and a charger that charges both batteries at the same time. The batteries are slightly larger than 3 aaa and fit into a pocket on the generous cuff. There are 4 power settings on the battery. Instructions are included with the kit. They are "micro-wire heat technology" heated and they are not as bulky as ski gloves. Each finger is heated as well as the back of the hand. The back of the glove is a pleated cordura for easy movement. The palm and fingers are a nice layer of leather. The gloves are also insulated with 3M Thinsulate. The fit is right on for my size.
Ridden 3 times:
1st ride 1:30hrs at 5:00 am: sub 30 degrees set on high. Hands were warm but battery died before ride was finished.
2nd ride 2:35hrs 6:30 am: 25 degrees and windy battery power set on low; hands were cold but tolerable and became completely warmed up at about 0:40 into ride. I even stopped to change a flat gloveless, gloves were warm once mech was completed. Added a pm ride 0:48:00 same day 32 degrees windy on the same charge. Battery power set on med high and there was still charge left when done.
3rd ride 7:15 am 30 degrees; power on med low 2:40hrs; comfort the whole ride and power left in battery when done.
Note: gloves were pre heated a few minutes before starting rides.
Battery heated gloves eliminate cold hand pain and extend comfort in the lower riding temperatures of the cold months.
So far these are nice
